Financial Literacy Crisis in America?

Financial literacy in America is at its lowest level in a decade.


According to the 2026 TIAA Institute-GFLEC Personal Finance Index, U.S. adults answered just 49% of basic personal finance questions correctly.


That's crazy to think about.


We live in a world where nearly all the information you could ever want is at your fingertips. Yet somehow, when it comes to understanding money, we're going backwards.


I've never understood why basic financial literacy isn't part of every school system's curriculum. Besides reading, writing, and basic math, you could argue it's one of the most important things we can teach young people.


Credit. Debt. Taxes. Saving. Investing. Mortgages. Retirement accounts. Compound interest.


These aren't obscure financial concepts. They're things almost every person will encounter for the rest of their lives.
